Dear Dr. García Castañeda:

                                      I have just received the notice of the death of your father, wich grieved both Mary and myself very much. We enjoyed meeting Sr. García feria this summer and it saddens us that so charming a man should have passed away. May we offer you our sincere condolensces, both for your personal loss and for that to archeology. A great pioner in Cuba archeological research is gone.

I have been intending to write you ever since we returned, but have been delaying because. I wanted to send you some of the photographs we took this summer. There are nearly a thousand of them, all of wich had to be catalogued and then the bes tones had to be solected for enlargement. This has taken some time, and I still have not received the enlargements. As son as I do, I will send some to you.

Under separate cover, I am sending some simple specimens from our Haitian excavations, wich I hope will be of some use in the Museo García Feria.

Both Mary and I wish to thank you very much for your assiatntece this summer. It would have been imposible for me to accomplish as much as I did witout your help.

Querido Dr. García Castañeda:

Acabo de recibir la noticia de la muerte de su padre, lo cual lamentamos muchísimo Mary y yo. Ambos conocimos a su padre el pasado verano y nos entristece que un hombre tan encantador haya fallecido. Deseamos ofrecerle nuestras más sentidas condolencias, tanto por la pérdida personal como para la Arqueología. Uno de los pioneros de la investigación arqueológica cubana se ha marchado.

Tuve la intención de escribirle desde que regresamos, pero lo he retrasado porque quería enviarle algunas de las fotografías que tomamos durante el verano. Tengo casi 100, que deben ser catalogadas y las mejores seleccionadas para su ampliación. Esto ha demorado un poco, y todavía no he recibido  las ampliaciones. En cuanto las reciba le enviaré algunas.

En sobre separado le envio algunas muestras de nuestras excavaciones haitianas, que espero le sean de utilidad en el Museo García Feria.

Mary y yo deseamos agradecerle por su ayuda durante nuestro viaje. Habría sido imposible para mí hacer todo lo que hice sin su ayuda. Realmente se lo agradezco.
